bubblicious?

The NY Times does a very interesting piece flagging what they seem to be pinpointing as a new bubble moment. In the article “Silicon Valley Start-ups Awash in Dollars“, the author quotes Tim O’Reilly with a comment I tend to side with: “There’s definitely a lot of betting going on, and it’s not rational”. This kind of reminds me of the moment at Web 2.0 Expo when Tim quizzed the audience about the bubble status. (more…)

2.0 companies: products or businesses?

It’s a bit boggling, yet pretty instructive, to browse through this directory of sites that paint themselves with the Web 2.0 brush, auto-tagged with hipness and religious zeal (not to mention a curious fondness for blue and gray)!

FWIW, I do believe the 2.0 moniker is a productive rallying cry for the emerging new world where useful web-based applications become mainstream, and the architecture of participation morphs us to a fundamental new orders of things. However, rampant trendiness and “VC pile-on” behavior always provides reason for pause. (more…)
